Some insurance policies have a hearing aid benefit that will cover a portion of the purchase price of hearing aids, but the majority of health insurance plans do not have hearing aid coverage. In Michigan, a hearing aid benefit is most often found on the policies of large unionized employee groups such as State of Michigan employees and retirees, the Michigan Public Schools employees and retirees, and the retirees of the automakers. These policies cover a portion of the purchase price of hearing aids, but do not cover costs in full. Some health insurance policies require the use of a third party payor. Kaczmarski Hearing Services does not participate in any third party systems. Traditional Medicare does not cover the purchase of hearing aids but will cover the cost of a medically necessary hearing test with prior referral from a physician. Medicaid in Michigan does not cover the purchase of hearing aids. The best recommendation would be to check with the customer service center for your insurance carrier to determine whether or not hearing aids are a covered benefit on your policy.
